Comic Strip Gag Writing: Spring Fever or Global Warming?

PC & Pixel by Tak Bui

Ready or not, here comes Summer!

... But before you start digging through the closet to see if your beach wear still fits, here's a dose of Spring from a few recently published PC and Pixel comic strip gags that I wrote-- Enjoy!

April 10, 2007

When writing a gag for the strip, I try to make the descriptions clear enough so that their message gets across, but I also try to leave enough room for Tak to be creative with the artwork. Sometimes Tak's visual interpretation of my gag writing is a little different than how I pictured the strip in my head. By no means is that any fault to him. After all, it's his strip.

But then there are times when he hits a home run!

Here's a sample of the original text that I submitted ...

1. PC is walking down the street on a blustery spring day.

2. Suddenly, he’s smacked in the face by a stray newspaper page (you can see the form of his face protruding, while the tail ends flap in the wind behind him).

3. PC starts turning around, trying to peel the page away with both hands.

4. Facing the opposite direction, he holds out the page with both hands, and it expands out like a parachute -- Pulling him through the air, and giving him the
opportunity to read the headline:

- “Strong winds in forecast.”

(Alternatively, the headline could read: “VIOLENT winds in forecast” and you might see something like a tire or garbage can flying towards him from behind.)

And here's the strip ...

And finally, let's not forget about the cause of all this wild and wacky weather ...

Comic Strip Gag Writing: Computer Jokes

PC & Pixel by Tak Bui

Here's a set of recently published PC and Pixel comic strip gags that I wrote around the theme of computers -- Enjoy!

First, we have Pixel and Digit preparing signs for their "Digital Rights for Animals Movement" (DRAM) ...

April 04, 2007

... I can't have a good movement on an empty belly either!

Moving on, we all know that Mac computers are superior to Windows-based PC's because they're not susceptible to computer viruses, but what if those apples were to go sour?

April 06, 2007

Okay, admit it ... How many of you have an old computer still laying around somewhere?

I have a box -- er, boxes -- of relics from the computer days of old filled all sorts of junk, including: motherboards, memory modules, CPUs, floppy disks (big ones ... 5¼-inch), as well as a Commodore 64. At last check, it was still in working order.

Part of me feels like I'll find use for them one day.

In the end, you gotta let go ...

Comic Strip Gag Writing: "Destined for Greatness"

PC & Pixel by Tak Bui

Whenever I'm daydreaming gag ideas for PC and Pixel, I tend to think of the PC character as a an "everyday" kinda guy. He hopes for the best, he tries his best, and he often feels like his lucky day is just around the corner ... Mind you, that's usually where some "bully" is camped out, waiting to put PC right back to square one.

In these types of situations, I think a lot of people can relate to a guy like PC ...

April 01, 2007

The above gag was inspired by all of the gamers I know -- the ones who take pleasure in their unmatched skills ... You guys know who you are!
